Torva

Legal

Privacy policy

Last updated 5 October 2026

The short version

  • No ads, no tracking across apps or websites, and we never sell your data.
  • You don't give us your name or email to play. Your account is an anonymous key on your iPhone and a handle.
  • We keep what the game needs to work (your progress, friends and purchases) and gameplay stats to make it better.
  • You can delete your account in the app: Settings → Account → Delete account.

Who we are

Torva is made by Cal Bass, an independent developer in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). Cal Bass is the controller of your personal data under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) and, for players in the European Economic Area, the EU GDPR. This policy covers the Torva app, its online services and this website.

Questions about privacy: support@torvagame.app.

What we collect, why, and for how long

Here is everything Torva's servers keep about you. The app also keeps your profile, settings and a cached copy of your save on your iPhone, with events and crash reports waiting to be sent; deleting the app removes those (but not your account on our servers).

Your account

What

No sign-up: the first time Torva goes online, your iPhone makes a key pair and keeps the private half in its keychain, where it never leaves the device. We store:

  • a random player ID and the public half of each device's key;
  • your handle (one is made up for you, like Saltwick-4821, and you can change it);
  • when the account was made, when each device was added and last used, and any device you signed out;
  • the last days you played and the version of the app you last used (to show you the right news and keep online games compatible);
  • if you choose Sign in with Apple to protect your progress: the anonymous user ID Apple gives us for Torva. We ask Apple for no name and no email address.

Why

To give you an account without asking who you are, keep it secure, and bring your progress back on a new iPhone.

How long

Until you delete your account.

Friends, blocks and reports

What

  • your friends and friend requests, and the players you block;
  • whether you're online, and if you're in a run, its mode and map (your friends can see this);
  • invites and friend requests waiting for you while you're offline (the last 100);
  • reports you make or that are made about you: the reason (name, cheating, harassment or other), the reported player's handle at the time, where it happened, the run, and an optional note of up to 500 characters;
  • moderation on your account: a reset handle, a quick-chat mute or a ban, and why.

Why

So you can play with friends, keep away players you don't want to play with, and keep Torva safe.

How long

Friends and blocks until either player removes them or deletes their account. Your online status is replaced each time it changes, and waiting messages are cleared once the app collects them. Reports and moderation records: up to 12 months after the report is closed or the action ends. Reports you made are deleted with your account.

Parties, matches and leaderboards

What

  • the crews (parties) you're in: members' handles, chosen heroes and skins, ready state and the party code;
  • invites, which expire after 10 minutes;
  • matchmaking requests, with how fast your connection is to each of our server regions (we use that, never your location, to pick a region);
  • while you play online, the moves and game state your iPhone sends to the run's relay server;
  • leaderboard entries: your handle, score, time survived, kills, crew size, map and hero.

Quick chat only sends set phrases (like "Thanks!" or "Help!"). Torva has no free-text chat.

Why

To run online games and leaderboards.

How long

Crews are deleted within a day of closing; invites expire after 10 minutes; matchmaking results after a few minutes; a run's relay data is deleted an hour after it ends. Leaderboard entries until you delete your account.

Your progress (cloud save)

What

Your game progress: heroes, levels, talents, gear and items, coins and other currencies (with a history of how they changed), what you've unlocked, gifts and messages you've claimed, achievement rewards, which notices you've seen, and your daily rewards.

Why

So your progress is safe, works on all your devices, and gifts and rewards are only claimed once.

How long

Until you delete your account.

Purchases and Pearls

What

Apple takes your payment; we never see your card or Apple Account details. When you buy Pearls or the starter pack, Apple sends us a signed record of the purchase: the transaction ID, the product, its price and currency, the App Store country or region, the date, whether it was a test purchase, and an anonymous token linking it to your Torva account. We keep your Pearl balance and a history of every Pearl you got or spent, which accounts restored a purchase, and the refund notices Apple sends us.

Why

To give you what you paid for, restore it, make sure a purchase is never credited twice, handle refunds, and keep the records tax law requires.

How long

Your Pearl balance and history until you delete your account. Purchase records for 6 years; when you delete your account they're kept anonymised, no longer linked to you or your handle.

Gameplay analytics

What

The app tells us about things that happen in the game: opening the app, onboarding steps and hints, starting and finishing a run (mode, map, hero, skin, crew size, result, time survived, level and what ended it), level-up picks, heroes viewed and unlocked, store visits and purchases started and finished, notices, bounties and gifts, invites shared and settings changed. Each event carries the app version and your player ID.

To count how many players come back, and where new players get stuck, we also keep which days each account played and when it reached each first-time step (like finishing the First Night).

We don't collect advertising identifiers or any other device identifiers, and we use no third-party analytics: the events go to our own database on Cloudflare.

Why

To see how Torva is really played, so we can fix what's confusing, unfair or broken (our legitimate interest in improving the game). You can object at any time by emailing us.

How long

Events are deleted automatically after 3 months. The days you played and your first-time steps are kept until you delete your account. We also keep daily totals (like how many people finished their First Night) that don't identify anyone.

Crash reports and bug reports

What

iOS gives Torva technical reports when the app crashes, hangs or uses too much power (Apple's MetricKit). The app sends them to us with your iPhone model, iOS version, the app version and, if you're signed in, your player ID. They hold technical details like which code was running, not your name or contact details. You can stop iOS sharing these with app developers in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Share With App Developers.

If you send a bug report from the app, we get your message, your iPhone model and iOS version, the app version, where you were in the game, the app's recent logs, your player ID if you're signed in, and your email address only if you add it.

Why

To find and fix bugs.

How long

Crash reports and logs: 90 days. Bug report messages: up to 12 months. If you delete your account, your player ID and email address are removed from them straight away.

Notifications

What

If you allow notifications, Apple gives the app a push token. We store it with your choices (party invites, friend requests, news) so we can send them. Daily reward and free hero reminders are scheduled on your iPhone and don't involve our servers.

Why

To send the notifications you asked for (you can turn them off in Torva's settings or in iOS Settings).

How long

Until you turn notifications off, Apple tells us the token no longer works, or you delete your account.

IP addresses

What

Like any online service, our servers see your IP address when you connect. We use it, for a few minutes at a time, to limit how many requests one address or device can make. We don't store IP addresses with your account or in analytics, and we don't use them to work out where you are.

Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, also handles IP addresses to deliver and protect our servers and this website, and keeps them in its own security and performance logs for a limited time.

Why

To keep the service running and stop abuse and attacks.

How long

Our rate-limit counters: a few minutes. Cloudflare's logs: as set out in Cloudflare's own policies.

Emails to support

What

If you email support@torvagame.app, we get your email address and whatever you write. Mail reaches us through Cloudflare Email Routing and is stored in Gmail.

Why

To help you.

How long

Up to 2 years after the conversation ends.

Other players can see your handle, the hero and skin you're using, your leaderboard scores, and, if you're friends, whether you're online and what you're playing.

Backups. Our databases keep automatic backups for up to 30 days, so deleted data can take that long to disappear from them. Backups are only used to recover from faults.

What we don't do

  • No advertising and no ad or tracking tools in the app. That's why Torva never asks to track you.
  • We never sell or rent personal data, or share it for advertising.
  • We don't collect your name, email (unless you send it to us), location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera.
  • We don't use your data to make decisions about you by automated means alone. Moderation decisions are made by a person.

Our legal reasons

  • To provide the game you asked for (contract): your account, progress, online play, purchases and the notifications you turn on.
  • Legitimate interests: security, preventing cheating and abuse, moderation, gameplay analytics, crash reports and answering support emails. We keep these light and you can object.
  • Legal obligations: keeping purchase records for tax and accounting.
  • Consent: notifications (iOS asks you first), Sign in with Apple, and an email address you add to a bug report. You can withdraw consent at any time.

Who else handles your data

We use a few providers, who may only use your data to provide their service to us:

  • Cloudflare, Inc. hosts Torva's servers, databases, storage, analytics, this website and our support email routing.
  • Apple Inc. provides the App Store, payments and refunds, Sign in with Apple, push notifications, Game Center and crash reports. For payments, the App Store and Game Center, Apple acts under its own privacy policy. We don't receive your Game Center identity on our servers.
  • Google LLC provides Gmail, where support emails are stored.

We only share personal data with anyone else if the law requires it (for example, a valid court order) or it's needed to protect someone's safety.

Where your data is

Cloudflare runs servers worldwide, so your data may be stored and handled in the UK, the EU, the United States and other countries. Our providers protect these transfers with the safeguards the law requires, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.

Deleting your account

In Torva: Settings → Account → Delete account, then type DELETE. It can't be undone. Straight away we delete your profile and handle, your Apple link, your devices, friends, requests and blocks, your crews, your cloud save (progress, Pearls and items), your leaderboard entries, gifts and messages, which notices you've seen, push tokens, the reports you made, and the record of the days you played. Your player ID and email address are removed from crash and bug reports.

What stays for a while: purchase records, anonymised, for 6 years (tax law); gameplay events until they expire (3 months); crash and bug reports, no longer linked to you, until they expire; backups for up to 30 days; and reports about you and moderation records for up to 12 months, to keep other players safe.

Can't open the app? Email support@torvagame.app with your handle or player ID and we'll delete it within 30 days. More on deleting your account.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or to send it to you in a portable format. Email support@torvagame.app with your player ID (Settings → Account → Player ID). Because accounts are anonymous, we may ask you to confirm the request from inside the app. We reply within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or the data protection authority where you live.

Children

Torva isn't made for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them. The game has no free-text chat and no ads, players only see each other's handles, and anyone can be blocked or reported. If you think a child under 13 has an account, delete it in the app (Settings → Account → Delete account) or email support@torvagame.app and we'll delete it.

This website

torvagame.app sets no cookies of its own, has no analytics or ads, and loads nothing from other companies. Cloudflare delivers it, so Cloudflare handles your IP address to serve and protect the site; if its security checks ever need to confirm a visitor is human, it may set a strictly necessary security cookie.

Security

Every connection is encrypted, your account key never leaves your iPhone, Cloudflare encrypts stored data, and only Cal Bass can use the tools that view player data. No system is perfectly secure, but if something goes wrong we'll tell affected players and the authorities as the law requires.

Changes and contact

We'll update this page when what we collect changes, and change the date at the top. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the game first.

Cal Bass, support@torvagame.app.
